We Are Our Choices

2 of Swords Ghost Tarot

“We are our choices.”
― Jean-Paul Sartre

I chose to work with the Ghost Tarot today. I do love this deck in spite of finding a rather nasty surprise inside it – an extra card, announcing that Lo Scarabeo has entered into a business arrangement with a Tarot organisation I cannot endorse due to the questionable morals and actions of its founder.

So it will be my choice to not purchase any more Lo Scarabeo decks until they realise what a huge mistake this is…

Anyway, let’s move on from this tangent to more important matters.

In the end, it is what we do and not what we believe that matters. Ideology without practical application is null and void – nothing more than mental masturbation.

It is only when we own up to past choices that we become free to make the right choices for the future. Those who stay in victim mode, blaming others for how their lives turned out remain captives of the past. In the Tarot, we see a natural progression in the final three Swords card of this exact mentality.

The 8 represents the blindness of refusing to see one’s choices. The 9 is the dread that comes over us when we find ourselves at the mercy of our own mental entities. The 10 is death/release/surrender when we realise that our minds have deceived us and we need to start over.

In the 2 of Swords space there is the option to be still and align the mind with the heart or to allow the mind to take control (in which case we have the 8, 9 and 10 waiting at the other end). No choice at all inevitably leads to the same 8, 9 and 10 scenario because because the mind is hard-wired to rule.

Giving the heart a voice takes patience and discipline.

What is your heart trying to tell you today?

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.”
― Theodore Roosevelt

You must not buy many Lo Scarabeo decks, as that sad state of affairs has been the case for about a year, I think 😦 On the other hand, Lo Scarabeo have given carte blanche to bloggers to use their images, compared to the ridiculous rules that were Llewellyn’s official policy last time I looked. So, no person or entity is all good or all bad…
Today, my heart tells me to seek collaboration with like minded people, and to show compassion to all 🙂
