The Importance of Taking Breaks

10 of Wands Mystical Cats Tarot

“When I take a break, even just a brief one, the creative energy flows in. Only then do I have anything of value to share with others. Once I recognized this, I stopped feeling guilty about taking time for myself.”
― Holly Mosier

You know that stage of the creative journey where you feel like you just can’t keep going any more? You’re plain out of ideas or anything you produce looks/reads/tastes like shit. You have a deadline and no idea how to meet it…

What do you do? Push yourself a bit harder or put the kettle on and gaze out of the window for five minutes?

The latter, always the latter.

Get back to basics and let your physical body guide you to what it needs to restore its energy levels. A good night’s sleep could make all the difference.

The scenario in the 10 of Fire from the Mystical Cats Tarot could be the end result of pushing through even though you are sleep-deprived and dehydrated .

And when was the last time you had a proper unplugged day of rest?

“Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
― Maya Angelou

The world won’t stop spinning if you take a day off and nobody will benefit from your stress-induced illness or lack of creativity.

Relax.

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
― Corrie ten Boom

Breathe.

Love and Blessings,

Lisa
